Venom: Let There Be Carnage – Jail Sequence
Venom: Let There Be Carnage – Jail Sequence | DNEG
I worked as Senior Layout TD at DNEG (Montreal) on Sony Pictures' Venom: Let There Be Carnage. I'm proud to share the prison sequence I worked on, where Carnage breaks loose.
My responsibilities on the film included:
Shot layout: assembling the shots in Maya from tracked cameras, the prison environment and the characters, establishing scale, composition and staging for a fast, chaotic action sequence.
Camera work: creating and refining CG cameras for full-CG shots, and blending or extending matchmoved plate cameras to follow a character far larger and faster than anything on set.
Character and environment staging: blocking the positions and paths of Carnage and the digi-doubles through the set, giving animation a clear starting point for each shot.
Sequence continuity: keeping the environment, destruction and character placement consistent from shot to shot across the sequence.
Delivery: publishing cameras, layouts and scene data for the animation, FX, lighting and compositing teams.
Thanks to the whole team at DNEG. It was a thrill to work on a sequence like this.
