The Right Stuff
The Right Stuff | DNEG
I worked as Senior Layout TD at DNEG (Montreal) on The Right Stuff, the National Geographic series for Disney+ about the Mercury Seven astronauts and the early days of the US space programme. The clips below are some of the shots I worked on.
My responsibilities on the show included:
Shot layout: assembling shots in Maya from tracked cameras, environments and vehicles, establishing scale, composition and staging for full-CG and plate-based shots.
Vehicle staging: blocking the positions and flight paths of aircraft, rockets and capsules, keeping speeds and distances believable for the period hardware.
Camera work: creating and refining CG cameras for full-CG shots, matching the lensing and feel of the live-action photography.
Set extensions: placing environment assets to extend the practical sets and locations, and keeping layout consistent across each sequence.
Delivery: publishing cameras, layouts and scene data for the animation, FX, lighting and compositing teams.
Thanks to the whole team at DNEG for a great project.
