Prehistoric Planet
Prehistoric Planet | MPC Episodic
I worked as Senior Environment Artist at MPC Episodic on Prehistoric Planet, the Apple TV+ natural history series that brings dinosaurs back to life in photoreal environments. The clips below are some of the shots I contributed to, alongside the official trailer.
My responsibilities on the show included:
Foliage scattering: building vegetation scatters in Houdini that match the species, density and distribution seen in the live-action plates, so the CG extends the photographed landscape seamlessly.
Photogrammetry: processing on-location captures in Metashape to create plants and ground cover that match the real locations.
Contact foliage: creating the hero vegetation around the dinosaurs, set up so it could react to the creatures as they move through it and ground them in the environment.
Environment layout: assembling the environments in Maya against the tracked cameras, matching terrain and scale to the plate.
Delivery: preparing and publishing the environments for lighting in Katana, and supporting the lighting and compositing teams through final integration.
Thanks to the whole team at MPC Episodic. A great project to be part of.
